HEADING TOWARDS A MODERN MUSEUM

§         representatives of Mazovian museums:  public, local, and private;

§         representatives of museums from the Mazovian partner regions.

§         representatives of Mazovian local and private museums;

§         representatives of Mazovian and partner region museums; 

§         museum experts from Poland and other european states.

 

The Conference Objectives:

 

§     to exchange information and best practice among representatives of Mazovian as well as foreign museums, in such spheres, as international museum cooperation, gaining external funds, promotion, museums’ social initiatives, new technologies in museums, new ideas in the museum profession;

§         to initiate cooperation between the Mazovian museums and their partner regions, so as to implement future twinning projects.

 

 

The Conference:

 

1.     Plenary session:

 

§         representatives of the local authorities of the Mazovian voivodship as well as patrons greet the guests;

Ø     Today’s museum – challenges for museums functioning in a mass culture – Professor Jack Lohman, the head of City Museum of London;

Ø     Action Plan for the European Museums – guidelines by the Working Group at Culture Unit EU for Cooperation With Museums – Dr. Dorota Folga Januszewska – Vice- Director of The National Museum, the Chairman of The Polish National Committee of ICOM;

Ø     Managing a residential museum on the example of the Palace at Wilanów – Paweł Jaskanis – Director of the Museum Palace at Wilanów;

Ø     The ethics code of the ICOM Polish National Committee as a basic set of principles in the museum profession;

Ø     The principles of museum co-operation in Europe;

Ø     Museum Education – how and who to teach in the modern museum on the example of The Warsaw Rising Museum” – representative of The Warsaw Rising Museum;

Ø    TATE Methods, Problems and Solutions for the Display and Conservation of Contemporary Art -  Derek Pullen – Head of Sculpture Conservation TATE Gallery;

Ø    Contemporary Preservation of Traditional Works of Art, Case Study of Conservation and Innovatory Methods of Analysis – prof. Iwona Szmelter, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in cooperation with the representative of Art Institute of Chicago.

Ø      New media in the museum on the example of Centre Georges Pompidou;

Ø     Safety during the organization of temporary exhibitions - Piotr Ogrodzki – The Manager of The Centre for Protection of Art Collections;

 

 

2. Thematic workshops:

 

Aims:

§         to work out appropriate solutions that would be implemented in Mazovian museums, by their representatives as well as by Polish and foreign experts;

§         to exchange information and experience between individual museums, presentations, discussion, conclusions;

§         “Partner projects’ stock exchange” – to come into contact with potential partners;

§         to discuss the possibilities of cooperation between Mazovian museums and partner regions’ museums.

1.      “Practical advice concerning the rules of gaining, implementing and calculating external funds for museums”

3.      “Museum Education – how and who to teach in the modern museum”

Coordinator: Dr. Karol Mazur – the Chief of the Education Section – The Warsaw Rising Museum;

4.      “New media in the museum: exposition, information, promotion. Present computer technology in stocktaking and documentation”  

Coordinators: Prof Ryszard W. Kluszczyński – the University of Łódź, Agnieszka Jaskanis – The National Archeological Museum in Warsaw, member of a group dealing with Digitalization at The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage;

5.      “Safety during the organization of temporary exhibitions”

6.      “Conservation and custodian care: caring for art in the traditional disciplines (part 1), caring  for modern art (part 2)”
