Reminder - extended deadline - CIDOC 2011 call for contributionsThe theme for the CIDOC 2011 conference is "Knowledge Management and museums". Museum Documentation is a far more wide spread area of work, including both museological and technical aspects. Knowledge management is a buzz word with great impact on many sectors of society today. Museums will have a lot lo learn from KM initiatives in other fields. Museums have been been experimenting with KM for a long time, even if hasn't been labelled as such. Early adoption of databases, documentation standards development, classification schemes and old card boxes are all tools helping museums to tell stories, and to save and share memories. Today's KM tools and techniques are widening the input and output fields and increasing the situations where information is turned into knowledge. KM will also have an impact on the audiences using museum knowledge - both internal and external. The value of better information and knowledge management is of great importance for all heritage institutions. Theme of the CIDOC conference of 2011 will of course welcome a wide range of contributions - not only limited to technical subjects or strictly KM based projects. Discussing strategies for information spread as well as sharing experiences from everyday processes or projects are of great value. We challenge you all to share your museum documentation focused experiences in Sibiu, Romania in September 4th - 9th, 2011. Please note that the deadline for submitting proposals for papers, or other format, is extended to May 15, 2011. All suggestions should be sent to Iulia Mesea, Conference Coordinator. See further information in the Call for Contributions at http://cidoc2011.brukenthalmuseum.eu We look forward to meeting you and to your contribution. Even if you don't want to make a presentation yourself, you are still welcome to participate in the conference. Please check the conference web for registration details. This information is sent to CIDOC members and friends, and participants from earlier conferences as well as to some local communities and e-mail discussion lists. We apologize for cross posting. Feel free to forward the invitation within your network, community or country. Please also let us know if there are channels that CIDOC might use for sending out information. Iulia Mesea
