Dear members of ICOM,

International Museum Day 2011 now has its own trilingual website, accessible at http://network.icom.museum/imd2011.html

Next May, around the 18th, the world museum community will celebrate International Museum Day. The 2011 IMD theme will be Museum and Memory. For the first time, ICOM has initiated close institutional partnerships with the UNESCO Memory of the World Programme, the Co-ordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations (CCAAA), the International Council of Archives (ICA), the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA). IMD 2011 will focus on the African continent, whose rich natural and cultural heritage is not always well known often badly known and deserves to be promoted.

Moreover, ICOM will be a patron of the European Night of Museums, an event which announces International Museum Day in the spirit of an all day and night museum week: http://nuitdesmusees.culture.fr/
